Trusting in God in our darkest moments.

What do we do when life is tough? Do we give up on God? Or do we retain our faith in God and trust him with the outcomes?  Let’s see how four young men kept their faith in God regardless of their circumstances.

Nebuchadnezzar King of Babylon came to Jerusalem and besieged it. Nebuchadnezzar took some of the holy items from the temple of God.  He also took captive some of Judah’s brightest young men .These four young men were Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah.

These four men were selected as they were outstanding and quick to learn. They were put on a three year training programme. The king’s plan was to totally indoctrinate these young men into the Babylonian culture and get them to deny their God.

These men were put on the same diet as the King. It might been considered by some as a privilege to eat the same meat as the King but Daniel approached the Man-in- Charge and asked if he and his friends might be able to eat vegetables only and not drink the wine from the King’s table.
He did this this because Nebuchadnezzar’s meat might have been offered to the idols and because they did not drink. Daniel and his friends wanted to keep themselves faithful to their Hebrew God.

Daniel said to the Man-in Charge, “Let us only eat vegetables? Daniel found favour with God because God was helping him. The Man-in Charge replied, “If the King sees you are less healthy than the others he will have me killed.”

Daniel said to him test us after ten days if we are less healthy than the others we will eat the same diet as them?” It was agreed. After ten days they were tested and were found to be fitter and healthier than the men who ate meat. God had intervened miraculously. The King was so impressed by Daniel and his friends that he had all the other men put on vegetable diet.

So what are we going to do when life is tough? Do we conform to the pattern of the world we live in or do we try and keep our faith in God regardless of our circumstances as Daniel and his friends did. (The story of Daniel s found in the Bible in the Old Testament).

Prayer
I put my trust in the God
Of Daniel.
Who is all Powerful
And all knowing.
My God will rescue me
As He rescued Daniel and his friends.
Amen
